A Long Weekend in Chicago
We just got back from a great long weekend in Chicago. Very urban and very lively - and very windy too! It lives up to its name (in the meteorological sense). We visited the Field Museum of natural history, the Shedd Aquarium (where we got a "behind the scenes" tour), and "The Bean" (aka "Cloud Gate"). Click on the picture to see more pix.

Liberty State Park Field Trip
I joined Pierce's Grade 2 Class on their field trip to the Liberty State Park Interpretive Center in New Jersey along with his teacher Mrs. Kubinsky and another parent Barbara Bravo (Tori's mom). The children spent the morning making their own field guides to take on an exploration walk in the park. They identified the various local species of trees and plants including the Ginkgo Biloba tree a living fossil which dates from the Permian period 270 million years ago (needless to say Pierce's favourite). We had a perfect crisp Fall morning, a great view of the Statue of Liberty and thankfully a short and not too bumpy school bus ride! Click on the picture to view the album.

Bernstein's New York
The new season of the New York Philharmonic Young People's Concert series at the Lincoln Center's Avery Fisher Hall has begun! We loved the concerts so much last year we decided to subscribe this year so we wouldn't miss any as they always sell out. In addition to celebrating Bernstein's New York pieces from Aaron Copeland and George Gershwin were featured. We were also treated to Sebastian Currier's Microsymph (a five movement symphony squeezed into 10 minutes) which is brilliant!

Flying Frog and Babies!
Here is Pierce's Spore Creature Creator creation called the Flying Frog. He gave it some babies and had them all dance on our bathroom counter!

Europan Puffy Fish
The Europan Puffy Fish is an invention of Pierce's (along with many other Europan creatures). Pierce and I used a 3D modeling program (CB Model Pro) to create the model and then I animated it with another 3D modeling/animation program (Cheetah3D) - my first 3D animation!
