Spamalot!

Last year I inadvertently introduced Pierce to Monty Python and the Holy Grail by reciting the "French Taunters" dialog to him and leaving him in stitches. Since then, Pierce has enjoyed the entire movie on YouTube (in bite size pieces - we recently got a copy of the DVD). In true geek fashion, Pierce memorized his favorite bits: the Black Knight, the French Taunters, the Knights of Ni etc.

It was clear to me that the natural next step was to go see Spamalot on Broadway (never mind that I've been dying to see it myself). This seemed like the appropriate "first musical" for Pierce - he's never expressed any interest in more kid-friendly fare like the Lion King. We were already very familiar with the music since we purchased the soundtrack a couple of months ago and Pierce has listened to it non-stop. Nevertheless the spectacle of live musical theater left us all hugely entertained. It was a surprisingly true to the film while still injecting a whole lot of new song and dance. Just as well, otherwise Pierce and I could have jumped on the stage and recited the movie for everyone.
